Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. There are many medications out there, but all come with major side effects. CBD oil is becoming increasingly known for being a natural alternative to these medications. Whilst being organic, it also takes away any nasty side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, nausea and weight gain. Even though research on CBD is in the early stages, its properties represent a viable treatment for many mental health disorders.
What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is one of the most common emotional problems, characterised by excessive worry and stress. In 2017, nearly 264 million people had a form of anxiety. Typically, the usual treatment for anxiety is a medication called anxiolytics. Today, people often prefer to stay away from any medication like anxiolytics because of their unpleasant effects. As a result many healthcare professionals have turned their attention to CBD. CBD carries many benefits including the reduction of stress, depression and anxiety.
What is CBD?
CBD stands for cannabidiol, the central cannabinoid found in cannabis. Unlike THC, cannabidiol doesn’t have any psychoactive effects – this means you can’t get ‘high’. If you have an emotional problem like anxiety, the chances are you won’t want to deal with all the side effects from medication. This is where CBD may be your solution!
Is CBD Addictive?
Unlike marijuana products, CBD oil is not addictive. No matter what the dosage is, there’s no way you can get addicted to cannabidiol. This is great for anyone who feels they don’t want a restricted dosage, like you would with normal medication. Even experts find it difficult to measure an appropriate dosage for CBD as it depends on a wide array of factors such as weight and age.
Evidence and Research
Studies from the National Institute of Drug Abuse has shown that anxiety in animals can be reduced by CBD. Other forms of anxiety, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, has also been shown to be reduced when CBD is used. CBD has also been studied in neurological disorders. A 2016 study found some antipsychotic benefits of CBD for illnesses such as schizophrenia. The researchers indicated a preference for CBD over antipsychotic drugs, which are known to cause significant debilitating side effects as well.
