What Full Spectrum CBD mean?

There are three main types of CBD oil :

Full-spectrum
CBD oil – contain a variety of cannabinoids ( incl. THC) and terpenes, flavonoids that naturally occur in hemp and cannabis.

Broad-spectrum CBD oil – same as full spectrum CBD but without THC.

CBD isolate – contain only CBD

The cannabis plant, like all plants, is made up of several chemical compounds. Within cannabis specifically, these compounds are called cannabinoids. There are also terpenes, flavonoids. We will slowly explain what are they.

The human body actually has an Endocannabinoid system designed to receive these compounds and use them to achieve a healthy equilibrium.

Full-spectrum CBD contains a wide variety of health-boosting and body-friendly compounds such as vitamins, essential fats, and protein. Vitamins A, C, E, and B are found in abundance in CBD, along with up to 20 amino acids and essential fatty acids, like Omega 3 and Omega 6. Amino acids are said to speed your body’s ability to make protein, which improves recovery time, and fatty acids are great for heart health.

Cannabinoids

These are the major cannabinoids that show up in the highest concentrations

Terpenes

These are original compounds that provide the unique aroma and flavor in cannabis plants and influence its effects by interacting with cannabinoids. Cannabis terpenes support other molecules in producing desired effects. Average cannabis strain contains over 100 terpenes.

Myrcene – Besides carrying the earthy taste and aroma associated with the cannabis plant, it is an effective anti-inflammatory. A study done in 2015 suggests that Myrcene may help in treating osteoarthritis and an excellent pain-reliever.

Pinene – It has anti-inflammatory properties and may help protect from ulcers and improve airflow into the lungs.

Limonene– It boosts the immune system, alleviates heartburn symptoms, and is used as a solvent to dissolve gallstones rich in cholesterol.

Terpinolene – research has identified terpinolene as a potent anti-oxidant and also has sedative effects. Studies say that it may eventually be used to decrease cell proliferation associated with cancer.

Bisabolol – it’s frequently used in fragrances and cosmetics. It brings about healing effects on the skin and reduces skin inflammation.

Nerolidol – Used widely in cosmetics and cleaning products. Studies reveal that it has anti-fungal, antioxidant, anti-microbial, and anti-inflammatory effects.

Linalool – It carries a pleasant floral aroma used in cosmetics and cleaning products. It has been found to inhibit the growth of fungal infections outside the body, particularly as they arise from yeast infection candida. Besides, it has sedative properties and anticonvulsant properties.

Flavonoids

They are organic compounds and like terpenes, they produce the aroma, flavor, and color in cannabis.  They play a major role in the pigmentation of cannabis responsible for the different colors of cannabis plants. Scientists have identified more than 20 flavonoids in cannabis. These organic compounds are said to have anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, and anti-mutagenic properties. They include:

Cannflavins A, B, and C- Reduces inflammation by preventing the production of prostaglandin E2 hormone.

Orientin– Acts as an anti-oxidant, anti-biotic, anti-inflammatory, and neuro-protectant.

Kaempferol– Has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. May be used to assist in the treatment of depression symptoms and help prevent coronary heart disease.

Apigenin– Has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, bone-healing, and cancer-fighting properties. It is said to help fight bladder cancer, specifically.  It helps reduce anxiety and acts as a sedative.

So why choose full spectrum CBD oil?

Cannabinoids are chemicals that have the potential to interact with a series of receptors in your body collectively known as The Endocannabinoid system (ECS)

It’s important to understand how the Endocannabinoid System works inside the body.

The human body produces endocannabinoids naturally. In other words, our body naturally makes compounds that are very similar to that of the cannabis plant. These endocannabinoids bind with specific receptors, then are later broken down by enzymes when no longer needed. The ECS is constantly working to create homeostasis in our bodies, which keeps a lot of our inner workings in balance.

When something is out of balance, the ECS makes precise, tiny adjustments in order to restore that equilibrium to the body. But when the body’s endocannabinoid system isn’t functioning properly, it can cause all kinds of physical issues.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does full spectrum CBD mean?

Full spectrum CBD oil contains a variety of cannabinoids, including THC, as well as terpenes and flavonoids that naturally occur in hemp and cannabis. Full spectrum CBD also includes vitamins, essential fats, and proteins found in the plant.

How is full spectrum CBD different from broad spectrum and CBD isolate?

There are three primary types of CBD products: CBD isolate products, broad spectrum CBD, and full spectrum CBD.

CBD isolate is just that: chemically isolated CBD.

Broad spectrum CBD products contain other beneficial compounds found in cannabis plants such as terpenes and flavonoids, but they contain no THC.

Full spectrum products, however, contain all of the plant’s beneficial compounds. As such they’re considered to be the most effective type of CBD product thanks to what’s known as the “entourage effect” — which comes from the compounds working synergistically together.

What are cannabinoids and which ones are found in full spectrum CBD?

There are over 100 cannabinoids discovered in the cannabis plant that are being scientifically investigated for their health benefits. Cannabinoids are characterised by their ability to act on cannabinoid receptors that are found throughout the human body. Our body produces endocannabinoids and by supplementing with phytocannabinoids such as Cannabidiol (CBD) Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabichromene (CBC), and more. Research shows significant potential for phytocannabinoids to support general health & wellness.

What role do terpenes play in full spectrum CBD oil?

these are original compounds that provide the unique aroma and flavour in cannabis plants and influence its effects by interacting with cannabinoids. Cannabis terpenes support other molecules in producing desired effects. Average cannabis strain contains over 100 terpenes.

What are flavonoids in full spectrum CBD and what do they do?

Flavonoids are organic compounds and like terpenes, they produce the aroma, flavor, and colour in cannabis. They play a major role in the pigmentation of cannabis responsible for the different colors of cannabis plants. Scientists have identified more than 20 flavonoids in cannabis. These organic compounds are said to have anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, and anti-mutagenic properties.

How does the endocannabinoid system interact with full spectrum CBD?

The human body has an endocannabinoid system designed to receive cannabinoids and maintain balance. CBD extracts work in harmony with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), essentially a complex network of receptors, molecules, and enzymes that regulate internal processes like mood, stress, sleep and pain.
